Nemeth Designs Kamov Ka-26 "Hoodlum"

The Ka-26, designed at the beginning of the sixties, is built for maximum simplicity and versatility as a "lifting system" consisting of the powerplant, contra-rotating rotor assembly, cabin, landing gear and twin endplate fin tail unit. Loads and containers of various kinds can be installed immediately behind the cabin, beneath the rotors: a pod for six passengers, an open platform, tanks for liquid or solid insecticides or other products, and spray bars for agricultural use. A variant for geophysical survey is equipped with an electromagnetic pulse generator in the cabin and a big hoop antenna outside. Thanks to its compactness and stability, the Ka-26 can operate from small platforms and has been fitted with floats and used for fish-spotting.

The Ka-26 went into service on a large scale in 1970 and has been exported for both civil and military use.

The Ka-26 was used by some Warsaw Pact armies in light dessant role, but its slow speed (travelling speed 150 km/h) and vulnerability limits its military use. It is, however, eminently useful for cropdusting. The coaxial main rotor configuration, which makes the Ka-26 small and agile, also results in a delicate airflow pattern under the helicopter, providing a thorough yet mild distribution of chemicals onto the plants. The Ka-26 is often used to spray grape farms in Hungary.

This is the only helicopter with substantial bugs. Luckily they are easy to solve. It is not like Nemeth to release a buggy chopper but this time they have done it. In any case the chopper itself is very well done, the panels are great and it flies well. A great helicopter. Let us have a patch to fix it and I will return here and give it 5 stars.

Another Sweet helicopter from the Nemeth Boys! It´s just as ugly as the real deal, so the model and textures are Perfectly made. I don´t understand that comment about it having a poor VC, I think it´s just as good as the other helicopters that Nemeth Designs have made. And I got them ALL, including the freewares too. Nemeth Designs just makes the Best Helicopters for FS2004, that´s the reason why I bought this one, because the KA-26 aint a personal Favourite of Mine. But I can´t resist buying a chopper made by the Nemeth Boys!!! I´m looking forward to their upcoming Sikorsky S-76, and after that I hope they start on the Eurocopter EC-135! :)

As with all Nemeth helicopters (I have them all!!), the external modelling is very detailed with excellent textures. Sadly the internal VC is very poor - it looks unfinished and there are free ware addons that have better cockpit textures. One of the most disappointing aspects is that the VC does not have any sign of glass. It is just like flying with no windows in. No where near as good as the FSHELI Lama for in cockpit realism. Go on Nemeth - get the cockpits better with the next one even if we have to pay a little more. GJ

Just lovely. As the other helicopters by the Nemeth brothers, this one is no exception. It is well done, flies beautifully (very stable), and is one sight to see.
